This is a nationally recognized program that trains participants to respond to emergencies in remote settings. - The 80-hour curriculum includes standards for urban and extended care situations. Special topics include, but are not limited to: wound management and infection, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, patient monitoring and long term management problems, up-to-date information on all environmental emergencies, plus advice on drug therapies. Emphasis is placed on prevention and decision-making, not the memorization of lists. - This course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision making abilities. The WMI Adult & Child CPR is included in this course. - The Wilderness First Responder course is pre-approved for 70 hours of EMT Continuing Education Hours (CEH) by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). - For active members of the Wilderness Medical Society, this course has been approved for up to 59.5 hours of credit (27 core and 32.5 elective) towards a Fellowship of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM).

The Scottish Saint Andrew’s Society of Springfield will host the Kirkin’ of the Tartans on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1551 E Portland St, Springfield at 10.30 am. The service will celebrate Reformation Sunday. The Kirkin’ Service is a traditional Scottish-American church parade (Kirk is the Scottish word for church) to honour Scottish heritage and the feast day of St. Andrew, Scotland’s patron saint, on November 30. The service will also recognize the Scottish roots of the Presbyterian Church. The Kirkin’ service began during the Second World War, when Rev. Peter Marshall of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church held services entitled “the Kirkin’ of the Tartan” to raise funds for British war relief. The service includes traditional Scottish prayers and hymns, kilts & tartan, bagpipes, and other aspects of Scottish culture. Scottish attire is encouraged, but not required. The event is free and open to the public – all are welcome, regardless of heritage – you do not have to be Scottish to attend!

Recent recitals presented by Dr. Jones have occurred in such storied venues as The Riverside Church and Trinity Church Wall Street, both in New York City, the Mormon Tabernacle, The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, California, and the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. The night will consist of a carnival style event including a Taco/Frito Pie Dinner, a live dessert auction, a silent auction, door prizes, raffles, games and the popular “Shoot -4-A- Turkey”. Contestants will be able to purchase 3 targets for $3 or 6 for $5. There will be three categories, based on age, with turkeys given as prizes for the best score. Contestants will shoot pellets from the JROTC air rifles in the standing position from 30 feet away. This unique event has all the cadets excited. The Booster Club is more excited about the amazing silent auction. We expect this year to be even bigger and better. The donations are coming from the different towns the students live in. The event will be held at the SRTC in Monett from 5-8, Saturday, November 10th. Cost for the dinner is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children ages 4-11. Children 3 and under eat free. The games, shooting and silent auction will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, the dessert auction from 7:30-8:00 pm, and all winners announced at 8 pm. Everyone is invited.
