Local Success Stories
Jack Merritt,
Greene County Sheriff
Missouri Sheriff’s Association
Greene
County Sheriff Jack Merritt wanted to show off the
attributes of Springfield and decided one way to do that
was to bring the Missouri State Sheriff's Association -
Annual Convention here. He knew the American National
Fish & Wildlife Museum in Springfield (the group had
a dinner there) would
be of great interest to the sheriffs, and that, with so
many other things to do in Springfield, it would be a
great host city. Sheriff Merritt also appreciates
the hospitable people of the Springfield community and
the tremendous support the CVB provided.
Bob
Cumley,
Springfield City Manager Missouri
Local Government Employees Retirement
System
Bob
Cumley, Springfield City Manager, both
manages the city and promotes it to the groups he's
involved in. Cumley knows the community well, and
was sure to emphasize how welcoming the downtown area is
to groups. Jordan Valley Park, downtown revitalization so near
the convention site, new facilities, and overall
affordability were all factors that
attracted this group to the
city. "What an opportunity to showcase our city
to so many people across the state and to my
peers," says
Cumley.
Terry
Hicklin, owner, Candy
House Gourmet Chocolates
Retail Confectioners International Annual
Convention
Springfield was so attractive to
the Retail Confectioners International, the group passed
on having the regional event here and instead, they
chose to host the larger international meeting in
Springfield! The family-friendly attractions in
Springfield stood out. “They really won our board
over,” Hicklin says. “Now we’ll have a chance to show
off our Candy House stores and host our friends from all
over the world right here at home!”
Sharon Lee,
Assemblies of God Conference Coordinator Group
Name: Assemblies of God Children’s Ministries
Conference
On
behalf of the Children’s Ministries Agency and our
headquarters organization, we are so pleased to have
experienced our third successful national children’s
event in Springfield. Springfield is a great host
city supporting our values to serve the children God has
given to our church and the privilege of helping shape
their lives through our ministry. Our success with
longtime partners within the Springfield Convention and
Visitors Bureau and area hoteliers plays a large part in
the overall success of the event. Together, we are
making a difference in our churches!
Angie Vire
and Jan Royster, Classic Chevy Club
members 32nd Annual Classic Chevy
International Convention
The
Classic Chevy Club approached Classic Chevy
International about having a show in Springfield as one
had not been in the Midwest for several years.
Springfield is in the Heart of the Ozarks and has a lot
to offer our attendees. Springfield won the bid
for the city welcoming 300 attendees to the 6-day long
event. The event was so successful that CCI wants
to have another event in Springfield in three or four
years. Angie and Jan are active members of the
local Classic Chevy Club. Because of the success
of the event here, their efforts and local support, the
attendees asked Springfield to present a bid for the
2009 or 2010 international convention. Talks are ongoing
to do just that!
Col. Jim

Order of the Purple Heart
"In
my Army career, I worked with organizations such as
yours in Atlanta and Savannah, GA, as well as San
Francisco, CA in setting up national meetings.
None of them gave as much assistance as you and your
staff provided us as we prepared the bid for this
convention. And, none of them offered the
continued assistance that you provided us after we got
the bid. From the comments of our guests, I am
happy to report that Springfield made a sterling
impression on them."
