Spring is here and that means it’s time for the arts to bloom in Springfield, Missouri.

The season begins with ArtsFiesta, a Cinco de Mayo celebration, from 6-10 p.m. May 2 in Springfield’s downtown Founder’s Park. The evening includes music, art, children’s activities, a performance from an authentic mariachi band and Mexican food.

ArtsFiesta is followed by Artsfest on Walnut Street May 3-4. Visual and performing arts take center stage when more than 140 artists from across the country display and sell their work. Five performance stages and children’s activity areas are also part of the fun.

The first Friday evening of each month brings First Friday Art Walk to Springfield’s
downtown arts district. Hundreds of patrons stroll from gallery to gallery enjoying a variety of
fine art – from oil paintings at Keyes Gallery to blown glass at Springfield Hot Glass Studio. The next First Friday Art Walk is May 2.

Springfield’s arts scene wouldn’t be complete without including the Springfield Art Museum and its 10th annual Watercolor Now! 2008 and 47th annual Watercolor U.S.A. 2008 exhibitions.

Watercolor Now! 2008 features aqueous media paintings by members of the Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society – artists who received an award from or served as a judge for Watercolor U.S.A. Watercolor Now! 2008 runs from April 26 to June 1.

It’s a prelude to Watercolor U.S.A. 2008 open June 7-Aug. 3. This nationally-known competitive exhibition features work from watercolor artists all over the nation. More than 1,000 entries are received annually for this annual exhibition.

The art doesn’t stop there! Throughout the city, more than 40 works of art, including murals, sculptures, statues and more are found in places where they can be viewed and enjoyed by the public. Various performances and entertainment are offered at the Landers, Gillioz and Vandivort theaters and Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. And the Springfield Regional Arts Council offers a variety of programs year-round at the Creamery Arts Center.
