Fall Fun in Springfield, Missouri

Summer is coming to an end and that means it’s time for autumn celebrations. In and near Springfield, Missouri, you’ll find dozens of ways to enjoy the season before winter sets in.  Cider Days, Ozark Fall Farmfest and SPOOKTACULAR are just a few of the great events to enjoy in Springfield this season.   

One the biggest events coming up is Cider Days Sept. 20-21 on Historic Walnut Street in downtown Springfield. Featuring more than 80 juried artists and crafters, Cider Days also has performance stages, a free hands-on children’s activity area, the scarecrow village and plenty of other fun. 

The Ozark Fall Farmfest is another event you won’t want to miss Oct. 3-5 at the Missouri Entertainment & Event Center in Springfield. The latest farm and ranch equipment and supplies, livestock and rural living displays are available at this free event. 

The annual Halloween SPOOKTACULAR begins Oct. 22 at Dickerson Park Zoo. The evening event includes Halloween decorations, jack-o-lanterns and candy treats. Wear your costume and watch out for the goblins!

Veggies and Fruits and Flowers - Oh My!

Don’t miss the last chance of the season to enjoy fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers from area farmers markets. 

  • C-Street Outdoor Market on Commercial Street in Springfield is open 3-7 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The market closes for the season Oct. 28.
  • Ozark Square Farmers Market & Music on the Square in downtown Ozark, just south of Springfield, includes Music on the Square – bluegrass bands and individual players. Anyone who wants to perform is welcome to entertain the crowd. Hours are 6-8 p.m. on Thursday. This event ends for the season on Oct. 17.

Rutledge-Wilson Farm 10-acre Corn Maze 

The newest addition to the fall line-up in Springfield is the brand new Rutledge-Wilson Farm Community Park.  The park kicks off the season with several unique activities and events, including a 10-acre corn maze, Harvest Fest, a pick-your-own pumpkin patch and a kids program. 

Harvest Fest is 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sept. 27-28. It includes demonstrations of sheep shearing, horseshoeing, dog herding, spinning and weaving, and trick roping; Native American food samples and music; booths featuring woodcarvings for sale, face painting, grinding corn to feed chickens, and corn husk doll making. Bluegrass bands Lost Hill and Missouri Mountain Gang will perform and hayrides with Clydesdale horses are available. 

The Farm’s first corn maze also opens that weekend and is available through Oct. 31. The 10-acre corn maze offers two levels of difficulty, youth/adult and toddler/parent. 

After Harvest Fest, the corn maze will be open 5-9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and noon -9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The maze is available to groups from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. 

A pick-your-own pumpkin patch is available during the same times as the maze. Pumpkins are $4 each. Hayrides with Clydesdale horses are available every Friday-Sunday in October. 

The Farm Park also will feature a “Fall Little Farmers – Giddee Up! Round Up!” four-week session in October. The program is for parents and children ages 4 and 5. Program includes farm stories, craft project and interaction with farm animals. 

Rutledge-Wilson Farm Community Park is the newest addition to the Springfield-Greene County Parks system. The Farm Park features an animal barn with miniature horses, goats, pigs, sheep, a calf and chicks; along with a visitors’ center, gift shop and milking barn. The grounds consist of demonstration crop and gardens, 20-acre native prairie, pasture land, a one-mile paved trail, a farm-themed playground, Wilson’s Creek and more.

Jones Farm

Jones Farm, a long-time favorite in Springfield, is open 1-6:30 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday Sept. 27-Oct. 31. 

The farm features hayrides Friday-Sunday, a straw maze, a huge pick-your-own pumpkin patch and fall decorations. Keep an eye on that scarecrow. He might surprise you!
