Missouri’s
Springfield Submits Its Major Mini-Movie to 20th
Century Fox
It was no small
undertaking. More than 1,400 Krispy Kreme
doughnuts, 1,000 production hours, 15 film
crews, 11 hours of footage, 33 hours of
editing—all in the span of about three weeks to
create Missouri’s Springfield three-minute and
forty-three second mini-movie submission to win
the Hometown Premiere of The Simpsons Movie.
Sneak peaks of
Missouri’s Springfield movie may be seen on the
following Web sites:
US97
Springfield News-Leader
Watch for a
scene to be on all Goodrich Springfield 8
screens soon, too.
What cannot be
seen in the snippets are special guest stars
Annie Busch, Executive Director of
Springfield-Greene County Library System, and
Ron Spigelman, Music Director of the Springfield
Symphony Orchestra, and of course, the plot
twist that explains why Missouri’s Springfield
citizens are up-in-arms over The Simpsons
Movie premiere and why movie studios are
blocking all new movies into Missouri’s
Springfield.
20th
Century Fox executives are not certain of the
date voting will begin on the USA Today Web
site, but at this point expect it to be no later
than early next week.

Missouri’s Springfield Completes Filming, Starts
Editing Submission to 20th Century Fox
Only
two weeks after production began in earnest,
filmmaker Jeff Clinkenbeard and team complete
filming and head to an editing bay at an
undisclosed location.
To
date the production includes 15 film crews,
nearly 1,000 man hours, 1,440 Krispy Kreme
doughnuts and 9,000 extras, all resulting in 11
hours of footage to be whittled down to a 3-5
minute mini-film. Editing must be complete by
June 25 in order to meet the 20th Century Fox
deadline of June 28.
All
this effort is to win the World Premiere of The
Simpsons Movie on July 26. Fourteen Springfields
will go head-to-head on the USA Today website.
The winning Springfield will be selected through
a nationwide vote with a beginning date yet to
be announced. Voting will end July 9 and the
winning city will be announced on or around July
10.
Notification of when and where to vote will be
made available to Missouri’s Springfield
Simpsons E-blast subscribers when cities are
notified that voting is open. Updates will also
be available at
www.SpringfieldMO.org.
Many
have taken this competition to mean the
Springfield of the Simpsons will be selected.
However, according to 20th Century Fox
representatives, the competition is to honor the
Springfield with the most Simpsons spirit. They
appear to have no interest in removing the
shroud of mystery surrounding the show’s true
hometown.

Simpsons
Commotion on the Square this Saturday
The second
public filming for Missouri’s Springfield

Central Square in downtown Springfield Saturday,
June 16. Four hundred extras are needed for the
scene depicting a downtown commotion over the
prospective premiere of the movie.
Participants:
1) Need
to meet in the square itself at 11 a.m. Filming
will last no later than 4 p.m.
2) Should
consider bringing the whole family for the
filming.
3) Will
complete a release form (Minors must bring a
guardian to sign.).
4) Are
encouraged to bring creative signs in protest of
The Simpsons Movie coming to Springfield,
Missouri. Signs cannot include profanity. Some
suggestions include: “Simpsons. No way. No how.”
“Go home Hollywood!” “D’ohn’t Come Here” “I
Prefer Springfield Cardinals Homers.” “Bart
Simpson: Eat MY Shorts!” “Dooooughnuts. Nuts is
Right!”
The first public
filming at the July 8 Cardinals game was the
largest filming for the mini-movie, however the
Park Central Square filming will be the most
massive undertaking of the entire production.
Four hundred extras, dozens of rubber snakes and
1,400 Krispy Kreme doughnuts are key components
of the scene.
Springfields’ submissions
must arrive at 20th Century Fox no
later than June 28. The winning Springfield will
be selected through a nationwide vote on the USA

NEWS RELEASE

Missouri
Springfield Competes for
The Simpsons Movie
World Premiere
The game is on and Springfield, Missouri, is
in it to win it. The World Premiere of The Simpsons Movie on July 26, that is.
Fourteen Springfields nationwide are
competing for the honor and national
exposure.
Many have taken this competition to mean
the Springfield of the Simpsons will be
selected. However, according to 20th
Century Fox representatives, the competition
is to honor the Springfield with the most
Simpsons spirit. They appear to have no
interest in removing the shroud of mystery
surrounding the show’s true hometown.
Springfield Missouri’s effort uses our
community’s spirit of collaboration with a
number of local partners providing support
for the creative team of Springfield native
and New York-based filmmaker Jeff
Clinkenbeard and partner Kyaw Tha Hla.
Rules of the competition are quite familiar
to the partners of Hlabeard Productions,
because they closely resemble those they
developed for SATO 48, the 48-hour film
competition held for the second year in
April, 2007. Several of the top SATO 48
crews are involved in production of the
video submission. The 3-5 minute video
production has an extremely short timeline
with submissions due to Fox on June 28 and
it requires the use of props including
Simpson’s-yellow paint and movie standees
among others.
The creative team does not want to fully
divulge the “plot” details for Springfield’s
entry due to the highly competitive field of
Springfields. Opportunities may be announced
soon, however, for participation by Simpsons
fans interested in being extras for certain
scenes and other public appearances.
The winning Springfield will be selected
through a nationwide vote on the USA Today
Web site –
www.life.usatoday.com
– beginning
with a date to be announced. Voting will end
July 9 and the winning city will be
announced on or around July 10. The winning

FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX AND
THE SIMPSONS
MOVIE CHALLENGE “SPRINGFIELDS” ACROSS
AMERICA TO HOST FILM’S HOMETOWN PREMIERE
LOS
ANGELES, June 7, 2007….One very famous
fictional city called Springfield, serves as
hometown to the world’s first family of
comedy – The Simpsons. Now to celebrate
this summer’s theatrical release of THE
SIMPSONS MOVIE, USA TODAY, The Nation’s

for their favorite real-life “Springfield.”
Competing communities across the U.S. named
Springfield, will compete to win a special
“Hometown Premiere” of the film on July 26th.
Each
participating Springfield will have
approximately 30 days to submit a short film,
3-5 minutes long, showcasing the community’s
“Simpson Spirit.”
Twentieth
Century Fox, which releases THE SIMPSONS
MOVIE worldwide on July 27, will provide
each participating community with key
Simpson’s filmmaking tools, including a
digital video camera, THE SIMPSONS MOVIE
couch theatre display, THE SIMPSONS MOVIE
posters, digital files of the film’s logo
and character art – and Simpsons – yellow
paint.
Matt
Groening, the series’ co-creator, has said
he chose “Springfield” as the Simpsons’ home
because it is one of the more common city
names in the U.S. Homer Simpson said, “This
is great! It will give me a chance to
finally find out where Springfield is!”

MacNeille, and
Albert
Brooks.
