YOUR Art Museum is pleased to host the incredible traveling exhibition, Eye to I: Self-Portraits from the National Portrait Gallery. Organized and drawn from the collection of the Smithsonians National Portrait Gallery, this exhibition examines how artists in the United States have chosen to portray themselves since the beginning of the 20th century. Through painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and video, these artists raise important questions about self-perception and self-representation.
The exhibition includes sixty self-portraits by artists such as Robert Arneson, Alexander Calder, Lois Dodd, Deborah Kass, Elaine de Kooning, Jacob Lawrence, Louise Nevelson, Irving Penn, Robert Rauschenberg, Fritz Scholder, Roger Shimomura, Edward Steichen, and many more.
The exhibition was curated by Brandon Brame Fortune, formerly Chief Curator at the National Portrait Gallery. The exhibition has been organized by the Smithsonians National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C. and supported in part by Mr. and Mrs. Michael H. Podell. Support for the Springfield Art Museums hosting of this exhibition has been provided in part by the Melinda J. McDaniel Charitable Trust.
See this special exhibition through January 17, 2021 in our New Wing Galleries.
