If you want to help the Convention & Visitors Bureau celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week May 2-10, consider picking up a new cap or t-shirt bearing a Springfield logo.

The t-shirts and caps are for sale at the Route 66 Springfield Visitor Center, 815 E. St. Louis St. The apparel is emblazoned with the CVB’s new logo, which features the word “Springfield” in a cursive font superimposed over an outline of the state’s borders.

The logo is part of a communications strategy developed this year after months of research in which focus groups and surveys helped determine perceptions of Springfield as a travel destination.

What the research revealed is Springfield is a great place for people to celebrate friends, family and life’s simple pleasures, ideas used to guide development of the logo and a new advertising campaign encouraging people to visit the city.

A bonus of the work is residents and visitors can now purchase new T-shirts and caps and show off their pride in the city. While you’re at the information center picking up your new duds this week, the CVB invites people to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week with complimentary popcorn, soft drinks, coloring books, Route 66 stickers and wooden nickels.
