Visit Springfield Event Calendar Submission Guidelines
To maintain a high-quality and visitor-friendly events calendar, all event submissions must meet the following criteria:
Eligibility
-
Location: Events must take place within the Springfield metropolitan area (including Springfield and nearby communities in Greene County, Christian County, or Polk County).
-
Events outside of these counties will be considered only if they demonstrate a clear connection to tourism or a partnership with Visit Springfield.
-
-
Public Access: Events must be open to the general public, either free of charge or with an admission fee. Private, invitation-only, or members-only events are not eligible.
-
Non-Political: Events must be non-partisan and non-political in nature. Campaign events, political fundraisers, or advocacy gatherings will not be accepted.
Relevance to Tourism
-
Visitor Appeal: Events should attract visitors or provide unique experiences that enhance tourism in the Springfield area.
-
Entertainment Value: Events should offer entertainment, food, culture, or attractions that appeal to a diverse audience.
-
Community Impact: Events should promote the economic benefits of tourism or enhance the quality of life in Springfield and the surrounding areas.
Event Quality & Standards
-
Accurate Information: Submissions must include a clear event title, description, date(s), time(s), location, admission details, and a link for more information or tickets. Events should be submitted at least two weeks before the start date to ensure timely review and publication.
-
High-Quality Imagery: A promotional image or logo (without text overlays or watermarks) is strongly recommended. If no image is provided the event by default will use the Visit Springfield Logo. By submitting an image, the event organizer grants Visit Springfield permission to use the photo for promotional purposes related to the event listing.
-
Appropriate Content: Events submitted to the Visit Springfield calendar must be suitable for a general audience and reflect positively on the Springfield area as a visitor destination. The following guidelines apply:
-
Family-Friendly Standard: Events should be appropriate for all ages or clearly designated as family-friendly.
-
No Sexually Explicit Content: Events featuring or promoting sexually explicit performances, imagery, or content will not be approved.
-
Drug-Related Events: Events primarily focused on drug consumption, such as cannabis-related activities, will not be approved at the discretion of Visit Springfield.
-
No Discriminatory or Unsafe Content: Events that include discriminatory, violent, or unsafe activities, or those that could negatively impact the reputation of Springfield as a welcoming destination, will not be approved.
-
Original Submission: Only official event organizers or authorized representatives should submit events to ensure accuracy and reliability.
-
Recurring Events: These events (such as weekly classes or markets) will be listed on business listings only, and sometimes on the event calendar if they are part of a larger community event, festival, or have significant visitor appeal.
-
Changes or Cancellations: If event details change after approval, organizers are responsible for notifying Visit Springfield as soon as possible to update the listing.
