The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc. is bringing 500 sailors to Springfield Sept. 5-11. The national convention will be at the University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center with events occurring all week. There will be a sea of sailors wearing their blue vests adorned with medals and patches. All will be sporting the navy dolphins designating them as qualified to take control of every aspect in the operation of a submarine.
The public is invited to an event 4-6 p.m. Sept. 9 at the University Plaza Hotel. A solemn and patriotic ceremony called “Tolling of the Boats.” The ceremony pays tribute to all the boats and sailors lost during all conflicts with a candle lit for every tragic loss. Join us in this tribute to honor all that have gone on eternal patrol.
Don’t miss the chance to mingle with sailors from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and present members of this elite group. There will be 500 sailors reuniting old friendships and telling sea stories. They fought for the freedom you enjoy today.
