In an effort to kickstart the local hospitality industry that was devastated by the pandemic, one organization in southwest Missouri is doing more than inviting people to visit.

The Convention & Visitors Bureau in Springfield is offering to pick up the bill for one night in a hotel for visitors who participate in the “One Night On Us” program. All they have to do is stay at a participating hotel for at least two nights and check in using a mobile platform with their smartphone at three of the 10 attractions and three of the 20 food and drink establishments participating in the program. When they show proof of completion during check out, one night is immediately removed from their hotel bill. The mobile check-in platform tracks their participation and sends a text and email once the program is completed.

The “One Night on Us” campaign is valid through June 27 for up to 3,000 participants. Other program restrictions apply and more information and the complete terms and conditions can be found here

The campaign was developed by the nonprofit CVB to help the area’s hospitality industry recover after travel came to a near standstill when the pandemic began. It’s one of several initiatives the CVB has undertaken to help the local hospitality industry that saw high unemployment rates and business closures for months after the pandemic began.

While there are signs of recovery, many hotels, restaurants, attractions and retail establishments are struggling to survive. The “One Night on Us” campaign is designed to help generate business while leisure travel returns to rates seen prior to the pandemic.

“We’re doing everything we can to get people to travel again, while practicing safe protocols to help prevent further spread of the virus causing the pandemic,” said Tracy Kimberlin, president/CEO of the CVB. “Some local businesses are in dire straits and need to see more people soon if they’re going to keep the doors open.”

The CVB is a nonprofit marketing organization dedicated to supporting the local economy through growth in travel and tourism.
