When Neil Gomme and his wife, Ozarks native Amy, moved to Springfield in 2013, he already had a plan to bring the cuisine of his native land — the United Kingdom — to Springfield. And just like that, the food truck craze was on its way to the city.

“We wanted to create a unique experience in Springfield and after lots of research we found that food trucks were a booming industry across the country but the idea hadn’t taken off in Springfield yet,” said Gomme. “That’s when London Calling Pasty Company was born.”

London Calling Pasty Company was one of the first occupants of Springfield’s Food Truck Park where Gomme and his business partner and sister-in-law, Carrie Mitchell, created a scene of London with a double decker bus, telephone box and post box and a trailer that looks like a British pub.

“We wanted people to feel like they had traveled to a different country,” he said. “We also wanted the flexibility to move our business to the people and a food truck has the advantage of being mobile.”

In just over three years, the food truck scene in Springfield has seen tremendous growth as people look for different and unique dining options in the city. A number of trucks have taken up shop offering a variety of delicious, fresh foods. Gomme believes there’s always room for more.

I still think there is a lot of room for more trucks to operate and offer different cuisines,” said Gomme. “Springfield is very receptive to new businesses and new food and is very supportive of local businesses.”
