Everybody loves a local dive bar and the friendly folks at Jo’s have a hit on their hands with their pork tenderloin sandwich. It’s no frills bar food that hits the spot. A perfectly seasoned and fried pork tenderloin served on a grilled bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. Add crinkle-cut fries for a buck.

Lindberg Tavern’s Grilled Cheese

Grilled Cheese at Lindberg's Tavern in Springfield, Missouri.

A visit to historic Lindberg’s Tavern on Springfield’s historic C-Street is a unique experience in and of itself. Then you try the food! The owners at Lindberg’s have crafted a menu that takes bar food to the next level and their grilled cheese is out of this world. Creamy muenster cheese and sweet onion jam served on sour dough bread with tomato soup for dipping. Enough said.

Nearly Famous Deli & Pasta House’s Egg Salad Sandwich

Egg Salad Sandwich at Nearly Famous Deli & Pasta House in Springfield, Missouri.

This sandwich has become nearly as famous as the restaurant itself, which has been serving Italian food and fresh deli items in Springfield since the late 1970s. Their homemade egg salad is tucked between two pieces of whole wheat bread and served with tomato soup or a salad for an additional charge. Plan accordingly as it’s only offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays.

Neighbor’s Mill Bakery & Café’s French Dip

This isn’t your traditional French Dip on French bread but Neighborhood’s Mill's version on their handcrafted bread has plenty of followers. When you think of Vietnamese food, a sandwich may not be the first thing that pops into your mind, but Vietnamese-style sandwiches are an exciting and unique alternative to the traditional sandwich. The BM1 is a French baguette with pate, roasted pork, Vietnamese ham, mayonnaise, daikon, pickled carrot, cucumber and cilantro.

Pancho’s Torta

A Mexican sandwich (torta) is another unique take on the traditional sandwich and Pancho’s serves them up just right. Pick your protein and they’ll pile it on high between two buns along with guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes.
