When it’s time for a relaxing break and a sweet treat, look for the iconic giant custard cone in front of a neon-lit, shiny chrome and white store.

Andy's Frozen Custard is a Springfield staple when it comes to enjoying a creamy, delectable dessert made with fresh ingredients; all custard is served within an hour after it’s made.

“We serve the frozen custard within an hour to help maintain the luxurious creaminess that is at its peak served right out of the machine,” said owner Andy Kuntz. “We believe there’s no better treat than our fresh frozen custard!”

Several of the signature treats, such as the Ozark Turtle and James Brown Funky Jackhammer, are available year round while each season brings flavors and combinations matched to the time of year.

Celebrate summer and spring with concretes made with fresh berries and fruit. The fall special is Pumpkin Pie and winter brings Apple Pie, Candy Cane, Andy Nog and Cookie Casanova.

“Our seasonal treats change about monthly, so if you visit our stores throughout the year, you will get a chance to try a wide variety of seasonal treats,” Kuntz said.

With six locations in Springfield, you won’t have to go far to find the business that started in Osage Beach, Missouri, more than 30 years ago. You will, in fact, find Andy’s Frozen Custard throughout the country, including other cities in Missouri along with Arkansas, Colorado, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Illinois, Arizona, Texas and Kansas.

Pineapple Whip

A sure sign of summer in Springfield is when Lulu’s grass skirt waves back and forth as she sways her hips. Her hula dance is an invitation to savor one of the city’s signature summertime treats: Pineapple Whip.

The non-dairy, juice-based soft serve was first made by the Fortner family in 1974 for the Ozark Empire Fair. It was so popular, the Fortners built their mobile stores and began serving the treat in the city.

Each of the three stores serves pineapple flavor with a second rotating flavor. Options include mango-peach, strawberry-kiwi, grape, orange and banana-pomegranate. The stores are open throughout the summer and on select dates in fall and winter.
