Red's Giant Hamburg SignThe clock is ticking on the city’s efforts to raise $15,000 through Springfield-based CrowdIt.com. And they are oh… so… close!

As of 11:30 a.m. today (Feb. 3) only $1,480 is needed to reach the goal that will help pay for the installation of a replica of the famous Red’s Giant Hamburg sign at the Roadside Park under development on the College Street Corridor on Old Route 66.

Red’s, a roadside cafe that was on West Chestnut Expressway, is recognized as the world’s first restaurant with a drive-through window. The sign was a Route 66 icon and the installation of a replica will help establish the park as a stop for tourists cruising across the country on The Mother Road.

People who contribute to the fundraising campaign receive a variety of incentives. Details are available at http://www.crowdit.com/dreamdetails/Details/619.
