If you’re a rockabilly fan and are interested in the City of Springfield’s efforts to revitalize Route 66, throw on a white T-shirt and some cropped jeans and boogie down to Billiards of Springfield for “A Night at the Blue Room."

Billiards of Springfield, 541 E. St. Louis St., will host an evening of music and support for Route 66 from 6:30-11 p.m. Dec. 12. The evening will feature rockabilly acts Mike Mac and the Rockabilly Cats, Blue Plate Special and Mary of Mary and the Hound Dogs.

Funds raised will cover construction costs for a re-creation of the iconic Red’s Giant Hamburg sign, a major landmark along the historic Route 66 Highway.

The City, through Springfield-based CrowdIt.com, raised more than $8,000 for the project in only two hours during an October event at Mother's Brewing Company, located on the historic route. With about four weeks left in the campaign, the city still needs to raise a little more than $4,000 to complete funding for the Red’s Giant Hamburg sign replica.

“We are thrilled to receive such a positive response, both locally and nationally, to renovate a key portion of the world-famous Route 66 highway,” explained Cora Scott, director of Public Information and Civic Engagement for the City of Springfield. “We look forward to continuing our fund-raising efforts with CrowdIt and are excited about the possibilities.”

As the birthplace of Route 66, Springfield is the first municipality to usecrowdfunding to help renovate the renowned national highway. CrowdIt was selected because of its local Springfield roots and early success in the crowdfunding market.

Upcoming projects include a relocated motor court cottage with restrooms, sign replica, vending machines and visitor information; a filling station replica; and a Birthplace of Route 66 sculpture.

Citizens are invited to respond to the “A Night at the Blue Room” Facebook event at www.facebook.com/events/476503399132199/
