A photo of Hammons Field is featured on the cover of the most recent issue of “AAA Midwest Traveler,” a magazine with circulation of more than 500,000.
The magazine featured Springfield Cardinals AA baseball along with Mother’s Brewing Co. and Springfield Brewing Co. in a story about baseball and craft beer brewers in the Midwest.
The same issue of the magazine also has an article about Route 66 that includes information about and a photo of the visitor center operated by the Convention & Visitors Bureau at its offices, 815 E. St. Louis St., on the historic highway.
The center was recently remodeled with a Route 66 theme. One side of the lobby is modeled after a 1950’s-diner and the other side an old service station, including a 1920’s-era gas pump on loan from Morris Oil Co.
The CVB, a nonprofit marketing agency that promotes travel and tourism to the Springfield area to help the local economy grow, conducts a variety of programs, including advertising campaigns, social media, a website and public relations, to increase awareness of and encourage travel to the area.
The “AAA Midwest Traveler” article is one result of CVB public relations efforts. The area also was recently featured as a travel or meetings destination in “Midwest Meetings,” “Missouri Meetings & Events,” “Midwest Events” published by the “Chicago Tribune,” and other print media.
