Missouri State University will celebrate its 110th birthday and the 10-year anniversary of its name change beginning March 17. Bears everywhere are encouraged to join in a 110-hour celebration of all things maroon and white.

From March 17-21, there will be opportunities for alumni, students, faculty, staff and community members to celebrate at special events, show how they make a difference in their communities and give back to the university.

Share stories of living the public affairs mission

One way MSU suggests you can help celebrate its 110th birthday and the public affairs mission is by by posting about yourself or a friend who makes a difference in the community and tagging #CitizenBear and #BirthdayBears.

Help spread the word

Local businesses are invited to join in the celebration by wishing Missouri State University a Happy 110th Birthday on social media – using the hashtag #BirthdayBears – and on digital menus, marquees and other signage.

Give to Missouri State

In addition, alumni are encouraged to give back to the university by donating $11, $110 or another amount to the Missouri State Foundation. An e-solicitation campaign with begin on March 17 to our 110,000 living alumni.

Students will also be invited to participate in supporting Missouri State during the week.

Join the fun

Throughout the week large birthday cards will be on display in Plaster Student Union. All members of the Missouri State community are invited to stop by and add their name to the card.

Several events are planned throughout the week.

March 17

The Alumni Association will host Missouri State’s 110th Birthday Celebration at 11 a.m. in Plaster Student Union. Join a birthday party hosted by the R.E.A.L Bears and the Traditions Council with activities, birthday card signing, birthday cake and photo opportunities. In addition, friends of the university are invited to wish Missouri State a happy birthday by sharing birthday wishes branded with the hashtag #BirthdayBears on social media. March 20

The Missouri State University Foundation will host the Missouri State 110th Birthday Living History Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in Plaster Student Union Ballroom. The cost to attend the event is $10. Historians will portray two of Missouri State’s most beloved academic legends, William Carrington and Virginia Craig, for a history lesson that will span the decades. A buffet will be provided. Tickets can be purchased online or call (417) 836- 4143 for more information.

March 21

The Family Association will host Spring Family Day 2015 at 1 p.m. at Hammons Field. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for MSU students and children ages 2-12. Held as a part of Missouri State’s 110th Birthday Celebration, the Bears baseball team will take on Indiana State. For more information, contact parent and family programs at (417) 836-3060.
