Fresh Gallery Fine Art

VIBE: This airy, well-lit gallery was once a bar. Now, it’s home to dozens of bright colors and eclectic pieces. Artists have to rotate in 30% new pieces every three months, so there is always something fresh to look at.

BEST SIGHT: Colored panes of glass dot the opaque glass walls near the ceiling.

Hawthorn Gallery

214 E. Walnut St., Springfield

VIBE: Back in the day, this gallery was a former savings and loan building, and you can still see the outline of the vault on the basement floor. This gallery rotates 25 artists and features both modernist art and paintings depicting the Wild West.

BEST SIGHT: See if you can spot all of the bronze sculptures, including an ice fisherman, elk and two otters.

Formed Gallery

210 E. Walnut St., Springfield

VIBE: This bright gallery features high ceilings and large windows and showcases more than 40 local artists. Customers can spend $5–$5,000 on pieces.

BEST SIGHT: A small converted storage closet features seascapes and lighthouses.

Creamery Arts Center

411 N. Sherman Pkwy., Springfield

VIBE: This is so much more than your regular art gallery. This renovated industrial building hosts classes and creative organizations. Along with featuring works by local artists, the art center hosts an annual $100-and-under art sale and a tiny library.

BEST SIGHT: Find the window covered by a flower cut out of a thin wood panel. Hint: Look way up!

Oh Gallery

214 W. Phelps St., Ste. 101, Springfield

VIBE: Obelisk Home is best known as an interior design firm with great retail, but it also houses an art gallery. Designers incorporate works from selected local artists into showcases, and it’s a stop along the First Friday Art Walk. The artists you’ll see here scheduled their shows a year or two in advance.

BEST SIGHT: Couches under a collection of brightly colored paintings.

Brick City Gallery

VIBE: Concrete floors, white walls and bright lights help display every kind of art imaginable at this gallery. Check out juried artists and Missouri State student work year-round.

BEST SIGHT: Snap a shot in front of The Brick for a professional-looking selfie.

Hyde Gallery

VIBE: Formerly downtown, this gallery is now housed in a law firm with art on the ground floor. You’ll find contemporary impressionism featuring horses and landscapes, so if that’s what you’re looking for, make an appointment.

BEST SIGHT: Beautiful wooden furniture and several fireplaces reminiscent of a southern gothic film set.

Waverly House Gifts And Gallery

VIBE: This gallery feels like you stepped into a neighbor’s studio space. You’ll find fiber arts, sculpture, paintings, fine jewelry and more from regional artists who have displayed their work here since 1987.
