There’s no question that with the arrival of Alamo, the movie-going experience in the city has changed dramatically.

Alamo Drafthouse Springfield, the largest Alamo in the country, features fourteen state-of-the-art auditoriums ranging in size from 42 to 110 fully reclining seats, with combined seating for over a thousand moviegoers. At every seat there is a table attended by tentative wait staff and a delicious full-service food and drink menu featuring locally sourced items that celebrate the flavor and culture of the area.

John Martin, managing partner of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Springfield ownership group, said he’s more than excited to bring the experience to the Ozarks.

“We have a lot of fun surprises in store for the city of Springfield and beyond, in particular, our range of programming and events,” Martin said.

Guests can expect an ongoing slate of curated specialty programming including nostalgic favorites, cinema classics and more. They’ll also feature interactive “Movie Party” presentations of beloved films such as “Pulp Fiction,” “The Godfather” and “Steel Magnolias” that include dinner and drink items themed to each film.

Inside Alamo Drafthouse is another destination all its own: The Backlot. The Backlot is a premiere full-service bar and eatery with a mouthwatering scratch menu, huge craft beer selection and out-of-this-world cocktails.

With 48 craft beers on tap celebrating local and regional breweries, the bar honors the extensive range of flavors and tastes unique to the Midwest. The Backlot also offers a specially curated list of spirits, with a focus on fine whiskey, bourbon and scotch. The Backlot is as cozy as the reclining seats in the theatre and is the perfect place for a before or after movie drink.

Plan early for “Movie “Parties” and big feature films by buying your tickets online and picking your seat. Then all you have to do is show up, kick back and enjoy your cinema experience like no other.

Getaway Golf

Springfield’s newest mini golf course celebrates travel around the world and has quickly become a favorite of locals and tourists. It consist of two 18-hole courses, one intermediate course featuring U.S. landmarks and a more advanced course featuring international landmarks.

John Reinart, who developed the attraction with his family said, it’s an idea he dreamed of for a long time.

“Traveling has always been a big part of my life growing up,” he said. “I’ve had the luxury of being able to do so and it’s something that I think that everyone should experience either firsthand or through a putt every hole.”

On the U.S. course, golfers will encounter replicas of the St. Louis Gateway Arch, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty, among others. Next door on the international course you’ll putt past the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal and even the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Along the courses, there are also educational markers with information on the landmarks represented, providing a learning experience for mini golfers as well.

“Everyone’s just really loved what we’ve brought here: the quality, the theme, the idea,” said Reinart. “Just the entire concept, it’s really brought another something to do here in Springfield as far as fun, family activities.”

Getaway Golf is open March through December. Hours vary.
