Missouri State University Tent Theatre

Tent Theatre has been a Missouri State University tradition for over 60 years. See various shows and performances throughout the summer at the new John Goodman Amphitheater, all while snacking on concessions of locally made treats. Ozark Greenway Trails

Springfield is well known for its connection with nature, and Ozark Greenway Trails is one of the best ways to experience that. With dozens of trails, you can easily find something that fits you and your skill level. From miles-long hiking trails to easy biking paths, the Ozark Greenways is the perfect way to find something to do outside.

Millsap Farm's Pizza Nights are a pizza lover's dream! Offering farm-to-table pizza topped with seasonal produce every week from May to October, there are always new flavors to try (along with always offering cheese). This delicious experience is available by reservation only, so get in while you can. 

Drive Route 66

It is a well-known fact that Springfield is the birthplace of Route 66. Make a fun day or weekend of following along the route and stopping at all the historic landmarks. You'll find delicious classic restaurants, nostalgic businesses, and more! 

Taste of SoMo

Taste of SoMo

Taste of SoMo is one of Springfield's tastiest events. Featuring tons of booths from local restaurants, attendees can eat around the city in one place. Listen to live music, drinks, and delicious food all while enjoying the summer weather and walking around Park Central Square. Taste of SoMo is 11 a.m.–3 p.m. June 22, 2024.

Movies at Jordan Valley Park

See a movie under the stars at Jordan Valley Park's free outdoor movie viewings. This family-friendly event is the perfect way to spend a summer evening. All you have to do is bring something to sit on, and you're set! Concessions will also be available to have a true movie-viewing experience. Movie days are May 31, June 21, July 19, and Aug. 16, weather permitting.

Go to a Springfield Cardinals Game

Springfield Cardinals Hammons Field

The Springfield Cardinals games are a classic Springfield pastime. Game days can have fun themes to go along with them, adding another layer of immersive entertainment. On top of the themes, Friday games have fireworks to end the night, dazzling the summer night sky and viewers alike!

Wonders of Wildlife

Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium

Attached to Springfield's famous Bass Pro, Wonders of Wildlife is a multi-award-winning museum and aquarium. The 350,000-square-foot space houses over 35,000 fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals, from small turtles to a large albino alligator. 

The sea of blue tanks stretches through a series of themed areas visitors can roam. Walk through and view an ocean shipwreck or cross over a swinging bridge into the Louisiana swamp area. Hungry guests can stop for soup, salad, sandwiches, and pizza at the Fish Tales Cafe near the museum’s entrance or nibble on snacks at the snack bar in the shipwreck area.

Pineapple Whip

Known for its hula girl and special soft serve based on fruit, Pineapple Whip has been serving up its delicious treat for years. This is a must-try visit and is one of Springfield's go-to summer spots to beat the heat. Different locations serve different flavors if you want to change it up! 

Attend the Ozark Empire Fair

Running from July 25–August 3, The Ozark Empire Fair is a must-attend event that has been running for over 80 years. The Ozark Empire Fair is great for all ages, and there is something fun to do for everyone. Enjoy food, games, art, competitions, rides, and much more with the perfect way to cap off your summer.  

Attend The Route 66 Festival

This hootenanny of a festival celebrates Route 66 Aug. 8–10, 2024. Featuring a parade, live music, classic cars, competitions, shows, and much more, step back in time for a little bit as you enjoy all the Route 66 Festival has to offer.
